How to use:
- Place the compost disc in a large tub, wheelbarrow or bucket. Slowly add approx. 10 litres of water (warm water will work faster) and let it soak in, fluffing it up as you add the water to loosen, adding a little more water if needed. When finished, it should be moist but springy (like a wrung-out sponge). This disc makes up to 22L of compost
- Remove the rubber bung at the bottom of the pot. Half fill the pot with compost, then place the 5 bulbs on the compost, putting four of them in an outer circle and the remaining bulb in the centre, with the roots on the compost and the growing tips facing upwards
- Cover the bulbs with more compost, leaving approximately a 5cm gap between the top of compost and the rim of the pot. Gently tap the pot on the ground to settle the compost, adding a little extra if needed. Any leftover compost can be used for potting up other bulbs, summer bedding, strawberries, herbs and tomatoes. Any unused, made up, compost can be stored in a lidded box for future use
- Place the pot on a sunny spot on the patio and water, as needed, when the compost gets dry. Watch out for slugs once the first lily shoots appear
- After flowering, remove the fading flowers to keep the plants looking tidy and also to stop seed heads from forming. But, leave as much of the green stem as possible as this also helps build the bulbs for next summer
- During the autumn, the stems will turn brown and can be snapped off at compost level. The lilies are hardy and can be left in the pot over winter. In spring, they can be planted in the garden or left in the pot to flower again
