Since 1993, we've been showcasing unique, game-changing products and providing exceptional customer service, across our digital and on-air platforms. Here are some of the milestones we've celebrated along the way…
On 1st October 1993, QVC, Inc joined with BskyB to launch its first international venture, and the UK's first shopping channel. The first ever broadcast reached 2.7 million homes.
Our state-of-the-art Knowsley Operations Centre opened on 1st April 1996. The £14 million project, 20-acre site initially housed a 350 telephone station-strong Call Centre and a 125,000 square foot Distribution Centre.
In early 1997, our one millionth customer joined and QVC celebrated £1 million sales in a single day.
On 1st October 1998, qvcuk.com launched to commemorate our fifth anniversary.
QVC launched on digital terrestrial television in 2001, increasing the number of homes reached from 1.2 million to over 10 million. On 20th July 2006, 167,864 calls were answered in one day - the highest count to date.
We welcomed our five millionth customer in February 2008, and in October 2010 QVC Beauty launched to provide 24/7 beauty coverage to our customers. Two months later, qvcuk.com took more than £1 million in a single day for the first time.
In early 2011 we launched our iPhone app, and in June 2012 our Media and Commerce Centre opened its doors in Chiswick Park. Later that year, the digital switchover took place meaning QVC was available in 26 million UK homes. In 2011, QVC Extra and QVC Style launched offering viewers two more channels to shop from and enjoy.
The QVC app launched on the Apple Watch in spring 2015, and just two years later we'd shipped over 16.5 million units from our warehouse. 2016 saw the birth of Tili, our quarterly beauty box initiative. In May 2017 we launched our ambassador project, in partnership with stars of stage and screen Amanda Holden and Ruth Langsford.
QVC joined Qurate Retail Group in early 2018. This global organisation has a combined reach of 370 million homes worldwide, through television, eCommerce sites, apps, social media platforms and more.
As we look to the future as part of the Qurate organisation, it's fair to say that exciting times lie ahead for QVC as a global multi-channel retailer.
