What is a 3-in-1 recorder?
In short, it's a DVD, video and hard drive recorder. You get a really flexible recording solution that allows you to take advantage of recording and playing technology from the past, the present and the future.
What are the benefits of a machine like this?
Firstly, 3-in-1 devices are great for recording TV. They've always got the perfect solution: if you want to record a programme but your not sure you'll keep it once you've watched it, just set it to HD recorder mode and you can keep it on the recording device for as long as you want it. Then you can delete it or save it to video or DVD. And if you want the reliability of something you're used to there's always recording to video to fall back on.
It's also great for home movie enthusiasts. Save camcorder footage like a wedding or a christening to the hard drive and you can then edit it when you record to DVD or video so that you keep all the best bits. You can do this with old videos as well - editing them so all the adverts in recorded films are deleted.
It's what we like to call future proof too, meaning it uses technology that won't go out of date anytime soon. It's great for preserving all those classic video moments by transferring them to DVD - DVD can last over 100 years without a loss in quality compared to five or ten years for video.

I do, and the whole family uses it. Actually, at the moment, the hard drive recorder's packed full of children's programmes like CBeebies for my one-year-old to watch - she loves it!
