All about diamonds

The exquisite and timeless beauty of diamonds has fascinated mankind throughout the ages. The most precious and enduring of gemstones, the diamond is often given as a token of love and devotion.

Diamonds were formed billions of years ago, deep within the earth. They are so rare because only a tiny number survive the journey to the earth's surface, and fewer still are good enough to be crafted into a piece of fine jewellery. Only about half of the diamonds mined today are of gem quality, and even less are large enough to be polished into a stone that's bigger than a match head.

Since nature never repeats itself, each glorious diamond is unique.

Diamonds have been treasured for over 3000 years. In the middle ages the true beauty of the stone was realised when man learnt to cut and facet this hardest of all minerals, releasing the gem's inner fire.

Ever wondered how diamonds are coloured?

To achieve the beautiful shades found in our 'Colours of Diamonds' range, we use a process called 'Electron Beam Bombardment'. Put simply, high-energy particles are passed through the stone which alter its structure causing the stone to change colour.

The final colour depends on the diamond's composition, and the temperature and length of a second process called 'annealing'. Black is the most commonly produced colour followed by blue, yellow, purple, pink and then red.

The stones in our 'Colours of Diamonds' range won't fade as we don't coat or dye the stones, and don't use any colouring agents.
