Pilates and AeroPilates
I haven't exercised for years and it is so easy, I do it at 6am every morning before I get ready for work. After a very short time I found that the constant niggling backache I have suffered for years has drifted away. Every home should have one!

What is Pilates?

Based on the theories of Joseph Pilates, the method's six basic principles combine the mental calmness of eastern philosophies with a western emphasis on physical strength and movement.

These principles are:

  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Centring
  • Flowing movement
  • Precision
  • Breathing

How does AeroPilates work?

The AeroPilates method aims to condition the whole body so that no muscle group is over-trained or under-trained. AeroPilates also features an additional trampoline, know as a Cardio Rebounder.

This trampoline provides low impact cardiovascular training to improve heart health and to help assist weight loss as part of a calorie controlled diet.

Using AeroPilates machines

The exercises are performed in reclining or sitting positions and most are low impact. There are no quick or jerky movements and no straining to the point of physical exhaustion.

Although Pilates isn’t primarily a cardiovascular workout, once you’re skilled in the exercises, you can increase your heart rate as you’ll be doing an aerobic workout.

What are the benefits?

  • Pilates develops a strong 'core', or centre of the body - the deep abdominal muscles and the muscles closest to the spine.
  • It can help elongate and strengthen, developing muscle elasticity and joint mobility.
  • It can build strength without necessarily excess bulk, helping create a sleek, toned body with slender thighs, a strong back and a flat abdomen.
  • It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement.
  • It can improve flexibility, agility and can help alleviate stress.
