A family legacy
The Buccleuch family own and maintain 400 square miles of Scotland's most precious landscape - and have a history that predates King Robert the Bruce. For the present Duke and his son and heir Lord Dalkeith, it’s fair to say that their roots really are firmly planted in the Scottish countryside.
For generations the Buccleuch family have been rearing cattle and sheep, harvesting crops, growing timber and working with nature to produce some of the finest produce that Scotland has to offer. It is this unrivalled pedigree of expertise, understanding and a commitment to quality that makes Buccleuch Foods - Scotland’s first aristocratic brand - so special.
Succulent meat
Buccleuch beef comes from grass-fed cattle and is traditionally matured for 21 days to add flavour. If you're used to buying beef from the supermarket, their beef will appear a little darker than you are used to – this is part of the maturing process and is a sure sign of good taste. There will also be a little more fat covering their cuts of meat - this helps to keep it moist when cooking and again imparts that intense, meaty flavour.
Buccleuch lamb is naturally hill-reared, grazing on the heather of the clean moorland hills. Buccleuch pork is sourced from the Freedom Foods accredited Dalgarnock herd, reared in the shadow of Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfrieshire. Game products like pheasant and venison are harvested directly from the Estates and are 100% free range.
Conserves, jams and biscuits
All products in the Buccleuch Foods non-meat range are specially selected from small local producers, using traditional techniques and recipes that have stood the test of time. All of these producers share the Buccleuch values - which are, in Lord Dalkeith's own words: "quality, integrity, authenticity and the pursuit of excellence in all that we do".
The Estate's jams and conserve relishes are award-winning, coming 1st in their categories at the Scottish Food and Drink Awards. The recipes for these have drawn upon the expertise of 17th Century Buccleuch chef Joseph Florence and Scotland's fruit-growing traditions.
Buccleuch specialise in sourcing the very best savoury accompaniments for their meat range as well as offering a unique selection of conserves, marmalades and heather blossom honeys. These are complemented by the Buccleuch biscuit collection which is additive-free and traditionally baked.
Commitment to quality
Buccleuch take food seriously and understand that customers want guaranteed quality and traceability. That's why Buccleuch Foods only source products directly from their own Estates or from like-minded, trustworthy local producers.
