Rated 2 out of 5 by Food For Thought I have just gone through the twelve-day programme using the Chris James Ultimate Lifestyle supplements plan, and thought you might like my personal review of the system. My wife recently bought me the kit, as she thinks I’m a bit overweight, even though I do try to eat healthily with plenty of fruit and veg. I don’t drink cows milk, or eat red meat. But do enjoy the odd take away, especially fish and chips. The idea seemed simple enough, cut out some foods completely and take various tablets everyday instead. It didn’t start off too badly. But after a few days I was starting to find that eating salads was getting a bit depressing, as you are not allowed fish, chicken, cheese or even mayo. So I could only really liven things up with olives. As much as I enjoy a salad, and have several a week, I do like to combine it with something tasty, and maybe include a wrap and a few crisps. Dinners were a bit of a struggle too, as potatoes are banned. So no mash, boiled, roasted or even chips with any meal. Fortunately rice is allowed, so I got to eat a variation of chilli that was made with Quorn a couple of times. The one plus point is that I normally have muesli for breakfast, so I could still have that, albeit with a slightly different recipe. Day’s seven to nine were the worst, as you can only have liquids. So it meant soup for lunch and dinner. But no crusty bread to dip in. Yes, I have lost some weight. Somewhere in the region of ten pounds or so. Do I think I could have lost as much in following one of the many slimming/healthy-eating plans that are out there? Possibly. I certainly tried to keep things to the letter, and didn’t cheat at all. Certainly my meals were less exciting and filling, and having to do without eggs and fish was particularly challenging. Preferring showers to having a bath, I didn’t bother with taking a Buddha Bath, or the skin brushing. Do I feel rejuvenated and healthier? I would say no more than I did before. In fact I feel really relieved that it’s over. It’s like being released from a prison sentence and I’m free again to eat what I want. Would I do it again? No. I might try another less restrictive diet sometime. Something where I can eat the things I like, albeit in smaller amounts and perhaps less often. But one that doesn’t rely on capsules being taken every day, and feeling that you’re not enjoying your food anymore. January 20, 2017
